A Lovely Tree

Hi everyone, I hope your weekend was wonderful! Rick and I were able to escape our duties as caregivers for my MIL last week and went away for a few days with our friends to South Carolina for our bi annual shooting trip. We shot at three different sporting clays clubs and stayed 4 days at the one we always do. A fun trip full of challenging shots, good food and friendship. I look forward to this trip so much and now can't wait until we go back in March. I am now trying to catch up on laundry , housekeeping, and commenting along with dealing with a cold that Rick and I both caught from one of the guys.
"A Lovely Tree" is Faith's image for the progressive challenge this week at Designed 2 Delight and she is asking us to use Fall colors. A CAS card that speaks for itself, a little distressing and coloring with distress inks and the card is finished. Faith is on vacation and this challenge is running for two weeks, you have until Thursday to get your card in.  Thanks for stopping in, I will try and be by to visit as soon as I can. By the way, tomorrow is our new release day for Doodle Pantry, be sure and watch for my post.

A Vellum Christmas...

Welcome to another Sensational Saturday here at Sugar Creek Hollow where the challenge this week was certainly a challenge for me as well, I believe this is the first card that I have ever used vellum on.

I wanted to create a Christmas card, that I knew for sure since the holiday will be here before I am ready and I am hoping against hope to have my cards ready to go on time.
I embossed a piece of softly tinted vellum with a Cuttlebug embossing folder to create a frame for my image which was stamped using Stazon and then heat set and laid aside to dry well. That beautiful "Silent Night" sheet music is a digital stamp that I purchased a while back at Gingerloft . I have a couple of other beautiful scenic images from them that I plan to use before long. I sponged the edges of the music sheet with distress ink and then attached my vellum to it with a couple of Stampin' Up snaps.

I hope you will give this one a whirl and show us what you can do with this material....the other girls at Sugar Creek have some beautiful ideas to share with you, so be sure and stop by for a visit.

I hope you are seeing this (scheduled with blogger) and if you have missed me posting, Rick and I have been away for a few days and will be back soon, so look for me to stop by then for a visit.

Enjoy your weekend!

SSW with Bugaboo!

It's another fabulous Wednesday and so glad you could stop by to see what we are up to this week at Sweet Sketch Wednesday where our sponsor this week is the fabulous Bugaboo . They are giving away 7 digi stamps to our lucky grand prize winner and I know you will find something to love in their wonderful store.

Arlana designed a wonderful sketch for us to use this week and I know that you will love creating with it.

We so appreciate all of you that play our challenge as we love seeing your work. Looking forward to visiting with you this week.

For my card I used some retired Stampin' Up designer paper "Autumn Meadows" and I love the uniqueness of the colors in these papers.  LOL, I used some leaf images stamped on the dp and then hand cut them and placed them together as my 3D embellishment and after placing my button, I looked and saw a maple leaf....totally unintentional but I love it.

Here are those same leaves stamped on the inside.
Now off to visit the team and see what they have created for us this week....and don't forget to play!

It's a Color Challenge

Last week I found a new to me challenge blog for Digi Doodle Shop and entered my card...I got picked for the top 3. Thanks so much, guys! I took a look around the shop, by the way they are having a special where with a $5.00 purchase you get two images free, so you guessed it, I went shopping. Loved their images. One of my purchases was "Butterfly and Thistle" which fit it quite nicely with this week's color challenge of purple and green. I kept my card very CAS using Spellbinders Labels 4 to frame out my image which I had colored using Prismas and OMS. I used foam dots to raise it over the piece of scrap sheer purple ribbon. I did add some stardust pen to the wings, but sorry it is not showing in my picture.

Be sure and take a look around the store and blog, if you like scenic images, which I do, you will love theirs, I am positive.  Thanks for taking a look at my card and have a great day!

Card Details:
Paper: Stampin' Up ivory, kiwi kiss, DP Basic Grey "Eva"

A Red and White Christmas

Happy Monday everyone, I am sharing this card that I created for two challenges, the first at Joan's Gardens where the recipe this week is to:

Use a die
Use a Christmas Sentiment
Use some kind of light (Candle, Christmas Tree Lights, snow etc)
Use Red and White and additional colors if you wish

and at The Stamping Boutique whose beautiful image this is, I went shopping this week, lol. They want us to create a card or project for someone special and I am making this for my lovely stepmother, she married my Dad after my Mom's passing and was a very good wife and partner to him in the last years of his life, and I am grateful for the kindness she always showed to him and his family.

I am cutting you close on the challenge at TSB but you have until 6 AM on Thursday to get in at Joan's. Hope your will check out these blogs.

I love the way this turned out. My papers are from the Teresa Collins Christmas Home paper pack.

Paper Cupcakes and Sugar Creek Hollow!

Welcome to another Sensational Saturday at Sugar Creek Hollow. The colors of fall are in full splendor right now but with the cold weather knocking at our door, they won't last too much longer so our challenge at Sugar Creek Hollow this week is to preserve them by making a vintage, shabby chic or primitive card with the COLORS OF FALL.

This week we have a lovely new sponsor, Paper Cupcakes, who will provide our random winner with 3 digis of her choice from the Paper Cupcakes store. The random winner will also receive a Sugar Creek Hollow badge to display on her blog.

For many of you that know me or have been a reader of my blog for a while, you may remember that I got my first chance to be a design team member at Paper Cupcakes blog, There's Magic in the Air . I will always appreciate Nina May and the chance that she gave me, even though I had not been blogging very long at the time. That is why I am so excited to have her sponsor us this week and to showcase her wonderful images. Be sure and stop by the store and check out her fabulous work.
For my card, I am using her image "Orchid Teacup with Bird". Not sure if there are orchids this color or not, but oh well, that is what creative license is for, right? I hope you will take the time to join us this week, so that we can see your beautiful creations when we visit.

The Design Team will choose a Card of the Week and that creator will receive a badge to display and will be in the running for a Guest Designer spot.

Our designers have created inspiration for you this week using Paper Cupcakes images so be sure to check out their blogs to get all the details.

Thanks for stopping in, hope your weekend is wonderful!

There is Still Time!!

Hello my friends, hope your week is going well, I am so loving the cooler temperatures, sunshine and beautiful Fall colors. I have been cleaning this morning, but wanted to get this card up to remind you that there is still time to play along in our DPDC17 challenge  this month, it is open through the 24th at 8:00 PM Central Time. You will receive Laurie's new set "Quirky Penguin" just for entering the challenge. I actually created this card for September, but never did get it posted, better late than never I guess. I am using topiaries from "Topiary Seasons" which has pots, topiaries and papers for every season. I loved coloring these and look forward to making something with all 3 of the others. Of course, I immediately thought of placing them next to a door. Mine was made by using a Spellbinders rectangle die to cut out my chocolate brown card stock and then placing a piece of Rubber Cottage card stock which was dry embossed with Tim Holtz's embossing folder behind it. Loved the way my brad looks like a door knob. I sponged a piece of card stock with distress inks and punched with two Martha Stewart leaf punches to make my wreath.

The beautiful sunflower design paper is part of Doodle Pantry's "Four Season's Papers". So please hop on over and check out this month's challenge and take part for your free set. Looking forward to seeing what you create.

I am also entering this at:

Charisma Cardz Challenge #42 Embossing

C.R.A.F.T. Challenge Challenge 145 Autumn

I just found these blogs today and look forward to seeing some of their other challenges in the future, be sure and visit and see the beautiful design team cards at both blogs.

Thanks for stopping in!

Just Couldn't Decide with Sketch 124 at SSW

Ever have those days when you just can't decide what you want to do? Well, my problem was that I couldn't decide which of the great images in the set of "Cute Halloween Collection" from Digi Stamp Boutique that I wanted to use on my card this week for our Sketch 124 challenge at Sweet Sketch Wednesday , so I used two of the four and made two cards.
The first one is 'Pumpkin Bella', isn't it just the sweetest bear? What is cuter than a bear dressing up for Halloween as a pumpkin? I paper pieced the pumpkin portion. My dp's are from a set by Stampin' Up.

I added a few punched leaves to  my twine.

Now, let me introduce you to Witch Zoe....

I added a flower cut with a Tim Holtz die and embossed the strip with one of his folders. You can't see it as well as I had hoped but behind my image is September's freebie from Digi Stamp, which was various Halloween images.

I hope you will join us in our challenge this week where the Grand Prize winner will have their choice of 6 images from Digi Stamp Boutique. I love their images and I am sure you will as well.

Now hop on over to Sweet Sketch Wednesday and see the beauties the gals have created for you this week.

Pumpkin Tags from D2D

Oh my, if you could have seen my face when I received my email from Faith with this beautiful set included in it for free, that's right free. I told you last week about the progressive challenge at Designed 2 Delight where just for creating something with that week's image you get the next week's image for free. If you didn't play last week which is was the first Friday of the month and the image is free, no worries, you can still purchase this in the store, create a project and get next week's for free.

I could hardly wait to print this out. You get the long border of pumpkins, a label and a tag. I added the handmade for and the to/from sentiments to my pumpkins, they are also from one of Faith's sets "Peace, Trees, Tag set". I had a jar of apple butter that I had just purchased from a dear friend that makes homemade sourdough bread to raise funds for her church and this time of year she also sells jams and jellies and homemade fried pies. The lady is in her upper 70's and is an inspiration to me.
So I didn't feel bad about putting homemade by....just didn't say it was me,lol.
Some coloring, a little raffia, some punched leaves (Martha Stewart), glitter glue and you have a gift set.

Hope you enjoy looking at this as much as I enjoyed creating it, and that you will check out the D2D blog for a lot more inspiration. Take care!

Tea Time at SCH

Welcome to another Sensational Saturday at Sugar Creek Hollow. This week the challenge is called VINTAGE TEA. We want you to create a vintage, shabby chic or primitive card or other paper-crafted project featuring vintage tea pots and cups.

This is one of my favorite images and is a digital one from Paper Cupcakes called "Flower Tea Cup".
I placed it on top of a piece of design paper that I picked up at Create with TLC  and because my image is JPEG, it left the white around it which created a frame on my design paper. Love this look and will try it again in the near future. I added a paper doilie, lace and some pearl pins and it was finished. My coloring was with Tim Holtz distress inks with a few added pearls.

I stamped a corner frame with the same distress inks.

We will choose a random winner who will receive a digi of our choice and the Design Team will select a Card of the Week. Both winners will receive a badge to display on their blogs.

Our designers have created some inspiration for you and if you click on their names you will be taken to their blogs where you can find all the details about their wonderful creations.

Thanks for stopping in and here's wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

I am also entering this into Challenge #78 Lavendar & Lace at Digi Doodles . They have some of the most beautiful scenic images and a special going on at the moment. Thinking I may have to go shopping...be sure and check them out.

2 for Designed 2 Delight

As I mentioned yesterday, I have two more cards to show you, both of these using images by Faith at Designed 2 Delight where she always gives a free image on the first Friday of the month and then if you create something with it that week and link back to her, you will get the next week's image free as well. This is a progressive challenge and as long as you play....free images. October's image is "Hope Butterfly".  I added a sentiment from her set "Peace and Comfort". We have a friend struggling with esophageal cancer at the moment and I plan on sending this to her.

At the D2D blog they also have a weekly challenge on Saturdays and this week we are challenged to use leaves in our image. I have had this one from D2D for a while and am not sure if I have ever used it, I can't believe that I have waited this long....I think that it is just gorgeous. It is simply called "Fall Leaves" if you go looking for it in her store.

I printed two of the images, resizing one a bit smaller. After coloring , I cut out the smaller one and mounted it with foam dots to give it some dimension. The copper ribbon is just some holiday ribbon in my stash and the sentiment is another one created by Faith for D2D "Doxology". Love how this one turned out.

Now be sure and stop by and check out the challenges...you have until tonight to make something with the free Hope Butterfly and get in on their progressive challenge and a day and a half on the Falling Leaves. Hope you saw something you liked and that might inspire you to give it a try.

Joan's Gardens

Seems like all I have time for lately is my design team commitments and all of the other stuff in life, so I decided that this week I would try and play in a couple of challenges. I am afraid I am cutting it a little close with this one at Joan's Gardens where the cutoff is 6 am tomorrow morning, if you don't have plans this evening, maybe you can still make it. They are asking us to make a gift bag using the wonderful tutorial by Selma. It needs to have pumpkins/leaves, be Fall or Halloween and have letters or words. This is my take on this challenge.

I used a bag that I picked up on clearance after the holidays last year. My image is from Stampin' Up's retired set "Bountiful Blessings", I heat embossed it with gold embossing powders and colored it using Tim Holtz distress inks. The leaves are from Gina K Designs "A Year of Leaves". This is so quick and simple and I think my friend that has a birthday in the Fall will love it.
Here is a close up of the focal image:

I have a couple of other cards that I am going to try and post tomorrow, so if you have time....keep an eye out. Thanks for stopping in!

Card Details:
Bag: Walmart holiday clearance
Ink: Tim Holtz distress inks and some Memento inks
Other: Spellbinders Labels 19, gold embossing powder, chipboard Studio G, SU ivory card stock

Join us for Sketch 123-57 At SSW

Welcome my friends to another sweet Wednesday and a redo of a favorite sketch from last year!! I loved this one! This week at Sweet Sketch Wednesday we are sponsored by Sassy Cheryl's Digis where our Grand Prize winner will have $5 gift certificate to spend at her store.

This week's sketch:

I colored my image softly with distress inks and sponged the sky with a scalloped circle as a stencil. Isn't this "Pumpkin Wagon Boy" the cutest??? My papers are from a pack that I picked up on clearance years ago. The jute twine was even included in it. I added the skeleton leaves from my stash.

I hope you will love this sketch as well and give it a try this week. Michelle is posting for us this week, so be sure and check out her great post and all of the goodness the team has in store for you.

Thanks for visiting. I love to hear from you and what you think of my posts. You, my friends, keep me sane or as sane as I can be.....I am blessed!

So thankful for you!

Good afternoon my friends, I hope this Tuesday is going good for you in your part of our world. I wanted to show you this card that I made using Doodle Pantry's  "Topiary Seasons Color set which includes the colored version in pots as well as the outline images. My sentiment is from Laurie's set Praise and Thank Him with the lovely sunflower paper found in Four Seasons Digi Paper Pack .
This turned out so well, with using the colored images and papers, it was just a matter of designing my layout and gluing down. My embossed background was made using a texture plate.
You still have time to join in at the Doodle Pantry blog where we are hosting the Doodle Pantry Digital Challenge 17 where the only requirement is to create something using one of Laurie's images from Doodle Pantry. Be sure and stop by and the store and take a look at all of this month's new release and check out the freebie section.

I am entering this in the following challenges:

Saturday with Plumrose Lane!!

It is another Sensational Saturday at Sugar Creek Hollow and we are having a special HALLOWEEN WITH A TWIST challenge this week so make sure you read the challenge post carefully.

We are welcoming Plumrose Lane as a new sponsor this week and for this challenge our sponsor is providing all of you with a wonderful freebie that you must use to make your vintage, shabby chic or primitive challenge entry. You will love this because the freebie is a collage sheet of fabulous Halloween images along with an instant card and envelope

To get your freebie, just go to the Sugar Creek Hollow challenge blog, click on the link and download the freebie (in a .zip file format). Please note that the freebie will only be available for the length of the challenge and after that will be available at the Plumrose Lane Etsy shop.

And as if providing this freebie isn't generous enough, Plumrose Lane is also giving one random winner a $10 gift certificate toward the purchase of any item from the Plumrose Lane Etsy shop. The random winner will also receive a Sugar Creek Hollow winner's badge to display. In addition, the Design Team will choose a Card of the Week and that creator will receive a badge to display and will be in the running for a Guest Designer spot.

I am so excited about this week and couldn't wait to share with all of you!! Sharon who is the owner for Plumrose Lane has become a dear friend of mine and she is the one that designed my beautiful blog header, background and labels. I love her work and her generous spirit. You will finds lots of free goodies on her blog and the digital collage sheets she creates are so beautiful, and there are lots of things for your blog, etsy shop, etc. I have used several of these in some of my past cards. She has created this Halloween set specifically for us here at Sugar Creek Hollow and I was so thrilled to show it all to you, in fact I have done two different cards to showcase her beautiful images.

The first one above was created using Sharon's image sheet which I printed and then hand cut the images that I wanted to use. I also incorporated part of one of the cards (the orange one) and yes I said one as she has two different cards and envelopes in your free download. My papers are from Teresa Collins Haunted Hallows. I layered these with  half of the card and a punched black paper made with the new doubled sided punch by SU. I used some purple seam binding and a piece of baker's twine in orange and white to create my bow  using the tail to hang my tags which are knotted and pop dotted to add some dimension. Don't you love the cat in the hat with the jack-o-lantern. You will find so many lovely images on the sheet to choose from. Here's a peek at the inside.

Now for my second card....I have used the green card and envelope. Love the elongated tile effect. I used a distressed brad through the top flower and then put a foam dot to give it some height.

Love the Fleur de lis dies with this. The key, butterfly and bird cage are all part of this sheet, and I didn't use half of the images.

For the inside, I cut one of the labels and stamped a sentiment in it. Here is a look at it and the back of the envelope.

Now guys, I hope you will support us at Sugar Creek Hollow this week and give some love to Sharon at Plumrose Lane. Be sure and go by SCH and get the link to this free digital Halloween set this week while it is free and let's see what you come up with. I will be looking for you!!
Thanks for stopping in!!

A New Sponsor at SSW

Welcome to Sweet Sketch Wednesday's challenge this week were we are welcoming a new sponsor, Saturated Canary .

Here is a little bit about her:

My name is Krista Smith.  I am the artist behind the Etsy shop, Saturated Canary Digis.  I began working in the stamping world about a year ago when I was hired to create rubber designs for the sweet Scottish company, Sugar Nellie.  They launched my artwork under the name 'Simply Sassy.'  I moved into the digital world just this past month (it's been a super busy month, indeed!).  And-- I love it!!  There is a little more freedom here, as I can create anything that pops into my head:)!  I am so humbled by the artistic talent of the girls coloring in my designs-- it is truly an inspiration!  Likewise, I am so thankful for the friendships I've made in this wonderful and lovely crafty community!  It's been a true delight!  I'd love for you to stop by my challenge/inspiration blog, Saturated Canary Challenge and join in the fun...And, while you're there, click over to my personal blog (Saturated Canary) and introduce yourself!  I am a bit eclectic and touch on everything from family (I've got me a great one!) to fashion (obsessed!)...Please say 'hi!'...I'd love to be friends!:)

This week's sketch:

I had such a fun time coloring in this image "Nevaeh" and giving her life. As many of you are already aware...I don't do a lot of life like images and this is always a challenge for me. I added stardust pen to her lovely dress and love the sparkle irl. My papers are a new find at our local Walmart where they are carrying Studio G products now, along with that cute sentiment. It was on a large pack of adhesive chipboard sentiments for only 97 cents. Love it...the paper was the same price for 5 sheets.

And look at this wonderful stamp that matches....also the same price!

I love creating with Arlana's sketches and hope that you will try to join us this week. I think once you try one of our sketches you will be hooked, I know that I was.
We appreciate everyone that plays along with us each week and I know you will enjoy our great blog. These ladies are the most supportive and creative ladies around and you will find something to inspire you at Sweet Sketch Wednesday, so hop on over and take a look around.

Doodle Pantry Challenge 17-Don't Miss it!

Happy Tuesday,

I have been enjoying a gorgeous Fall day here in the mountains of Virginia....the temps are perfect with warm sunshine. I have been finishing up my inside and outside decorating for Fall as well as working some on my Mums...they needed a little deadheading . They have certainly outdone themselves this year. I have about 3 areas now in my yard with these beautiful flowers and I love them. They start blooming in early August and go until frost time.

I took this picture the other evening when the temps started dropping as I was afraid it might frost, but no they are still looking good!! At the time I bought these, I thought that they were all the same, shows what the tags knew....but I love the mixed colors.

Now to my card and my post...just wanted to let you know that our challenge at the Doodle Pantry blog will begin tomorrow. DPDC17 will run from the 5th of October until the 24th and our only requirement is for you to use a Doodle Pantry image. If your don't already own one, be sure and check out the new release sets that came out on Oct 1st and the specials that Laurie is running. You will get the new set Quirky Penguin for entering our challenge this month and if you make a purchase, our freebie with purchase is the Quirky Turkey which I can't wait to make something with. And if you would like to try before you buy, be sure and check out the freebie section. Laurie is so generous.
I used Gina K Designs fresh asparagus card stock which I dry embossed with the Autumn cuttlebug folder.  I know he is suppose to be a Quirky Owl but I did keep his colors a little traditional. I added leaves and branches from Spellbinders Bugs die set.

I am entering this into the challenge at Cupcake Inspirations where they had this gorgeous cupcake as inspiration this week.

Doodle Pantry is also sponsoring this challenge, so be sure and check it out.

I also found Crafty Cardmakers where this time "anything goes" and I am going to enter my card there as well.

So be sure and check out our challenge for October and the newly released sets from Doodle Pantry. We would love to have you play along. Now off to fix dinner in a bit, hope to stop by your blog for a visit soon. Thanks for visiting mine.

It's Trash to Treasure Saturday at SCH

Today is another Sensational Saturday at Sugar Creek Hollow and it is also the first of the month so that means it is time for another TRASH TO VINTAGE TREASURE challenge. Your vintage card or other paper-crafted project must start with or include one or more items that you would normally throw away. This does not mean paper scraps in your stash but you can use them in addition to your recycled or re-purposed item. Please make sure you add a photo to your blog post of the throw-away item(s) you have used so we can see how your creativity began.

So to show you....from this

to this:

You may be able to see that this actually ended up in my trash, see the water stain in the back of the packaging? Then it hit me what a great project starter! I decided to create a Get Well Package. It contains some Kleenex, alka seltzer, tea bags and cough drops. I opened up the box and glued my dp to it before rescoring and retaping the box. My trim is some that I got on clearance and I think it looks just right on this. I also turned the paper over and used the purple side inside of the box, although I am not sure you can see that from my picture. It is the same as my backer for the sentiment.

We will be choosing a random winner who will receive a digi of our choice and the Design Team will select a Card of the Week.

Be sure and head on over to Sugar Creek Hollow and take a look around and I hope you will recycle something into a treasure for our challenge this week.

Our designers have been digging through their recycling bins and transformed some great items into wonderful treasures for your inspiration. To get more details and see what they used, just click on their name and you will be taken directly to their blog.

Thanks for stopping by.....
